2010 MERCEDES-BENZ M-CLASS Review
Overview
The 2010 M-Class SUV is the original luxury SUV in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. It is a five-passenger comfortably sized vehicle sufficient room for luggage and drives like a sedan and is also a competent off-roader. It comes in ML350, ML 550, ML 350 BlueTEC and ML63 AMG trims. A hybrid model is new for 2010. The M-Class takes on the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Land Rover LR4.
Powertrain And Performance
Four engines are available. The base ML350 comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all other M-Class models have Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. The ML350 derives power from a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 268 horsepower while the ML550 is powered by a V-8 good for 382 hp. The ML63 AMG gets 503 hp from a 6.2-liter V-8 engine and the ML350 BlueTEC diesel model employs a 3.0-liter V-6 rated at 210 hp and 398 pounds-feet of torque. All engines are teamed with a seven-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, an all-wheel-drive non-hybrid M-Class can tow up to 7,200 pounds.
Build And Styling
The ML320 BlueTEC and ML350 are loaded with similar amenities such as dual-zone automatic climate control; 19-inch wheels; rear-window wiper with washer; all-season tires; shift paddles behind steering wheel; silver grille with chrome ribs; power windows with express-open/close; driver-selectable daytime running lamps; leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel; dual heated power mirrors; electronic analog speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and quartz clock; rain-sensing wipers; electronic automatic cruise control; Tele Aid System that uses GPS satellites; 8-speaker audio system; two-monitor rear-seat entertainment system; and COMAND Cockpit Management and Data system.
The ML550 comes with roof rails; new sporty styling with 19-inch AMG wheels; running boards; and AMG-style front and rear bumpers. The top-of-the-line ML63 AMG is further enhanced by features such as 20-inch wheels; corner-illuminating fog lights; leather-trimmed seats; bi-xenon adaptive headlights; supportive heated and ventilated front sport seats; sport steering wheel with paddle shifters; and upgraded brakes. The Mercedes-Benz M-Class offers an impressive cargo space of over 70 cubic feet.
